How to Download YouTube Videos on Android

You can download a YouTube video on your Android phone or tablet without installing any app. Copy the video link, paste it into the download box above in Chrome, choose a quality, and tap Download. The video is saved to the Downloads folder on your device.

The steps below show how to do it from start to finish, where to find your video afterwards, and what to do if something does not work.

Step-by-Step: Download a YouTube Video on Android

Step 1: Copy the YouTube video link

Open the video in the YouTube app, tap Share, then tap Copy link. If you are watching in a browser, use the Share option or the menu and copy the video address.

Step 2: Open SaveLinkTube in Chrome and paste the link

Open SaveLinkTube in Chrome. Tap the input box, press and hold, choose Paste, and then tap the Download button. Make sure the link points to a single video, not to a channel or playlist page.

Step 3: Choose a quality

SaveLinkTube lists the MP4 qualities available for the video. For a phone, 720p or 1080p is usually the best balance of sharpness and file size. Choose a higher quality only if you have enough storage and a good connection.

Step 4: Tap Download and wait for it to finish

Tap the quality you want. Chrome starts the download and shows its progress in a notification. If Chrome asks for permission to access files or storage, allow it. Keep the browser open until the download finishes.

Step 5: Open the downloaded video

When the download is complete, tap the notification to open the video. You can also open Chrome's menu and choose Downloads, or open the Files app and look in the Downloads folder.

Where Is the Downloaded Video on My Android Phone?

Downloaded videos are saved in the Downloads folder on your phone. Open the Files app (called My Files on some phones) and go to Downloads. Many gallery apps also show these videos in a Downloads album, but this depends on your phone.

To change where Chrome saves files, open Chrome's menu, go to Settings, then Downloads. Some versions also let you turn on the option to ask where to save each file.

Which Quality Is Best for Android?

For most Android phones, 720p or 1080p looks sharp and keeps files small. 4K and 8K files, when a video offers them, are much larger and take longer to download, so use Wi-Fi and check your free storage first. If a file does not play smoothly, download it again in a lower quality.

Troubleshooting on Android

The video opens in a player instead of downloading

Press and hold the download link or button, then choose Download link from the menu.

I cannot find the downloaded file

Tap the download notification, open Chrome's menu and choose Downloads, or check the Downloads folder in the Files app.

Nothing happens when I tap Download

Check that Chrome is allowed to access files or storage in your phone's app settings, then try again.

The video will not play

Try downloading it again in a lower quality such as 1080p. You can also open the file in another video player app such as VLC.

The download is slow or stops

Higher qualities create larger files. Keep Chrome open while it downloads, use Wi-Fi if you can, and make sure you have enough free storage. Battery saver modes can interrupt downloads on some phones.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I download YouTube videos on Android without an app?

Yes. SaveLinkTube runs in your browser, so you do not need to install a separate downloader app.

Why is the downloaded video not in my Gallery?

Videos are saved to the Downloads folder. Open it from the Files app, or look for a Downloads album in your gallery app if your phone shows one.

Which browser should I use on Android?

Chrome is recommended. Other browsers such as Samsung Internet or Firefox usually work in a similar way. The steps are the same on Android tablets.

Can I download in 4K on Android?

If the original video offers 4K, you can choose it. The files are large, and 1080p is usually enough for a phone screen.

Can I watch the video without internet?

Yes. Once the file is saved on your device, you can watch it offline. Only download videos that you own or have permission to save.
